Alumna, Alice McIlroy (previously Coubrough, DAHS 2006), has recently released her debut novel, 'The Glass Woman', a psychological thriller and cautionary tale about a female scientist who trials a pioneering AI brain implant. It explores themes of autonomy, memory and identity. The novel has been well received and has been reviewed in The Guardian, New Scientist and Irish Times.

Following school, Alice read English at the University of Exeter, before completing a postgraduate in Law and the Faber Academy’s novel writing programme. Her writing has been longlisted for the Stylist Prize for Feminist Fiction and Grindstone International Novel Prize, and her articles have been published in BookBrunch, The Author, CrimeReads and Shots Magazine. She teaches creative writing and works for a literary scout.

Alice will be joining us on the evening of Wednesday 19th November 2025 at 7.00pm, to talk about her book and journey into writing. There will also be an opportunity to buy a copy of Alice’s book on the night.

Tickets are priced at £2 per person and will include light refreshments. To book your place.
